Sniff

What’s that smell? Oooh, chocolate. Well sorry, mate you far from right.

In Mexico, you can’t be too sure about what you’re smelling. Well if it’s not chocolate then what is it?

Cosmos atrosanguineus aka Chocolate cosmos.

This is a zoomed-in pic of a bouquet of the flowers with a blurred green background.
These stunning beauties have been claimed to be extinct in the wild.

It is a Flower that smells exactly like rich chocolate (the flower was even once known as Black Biden!!) nevertheless, the fragrance only gets strong towards the day’s end. Their maroon, brown, really close to black, crimson, and even pink flowers have not only a sugary smell, but also a velvet-like texture. (But don't try to eat them though, these plants can fight back using their toxic strength)People believe that this flower gives a person strength to express their thoughts and helps with public speaking fear. And as it turns out this flower is used to treat malaria in Brazil!!

It resides in Mexico and was discovered in the mid -1800. It usually blooms in summer and lasts all the way to fall and sometimes into winter. This beautifully fragranced flower is on the TOP10 rarest lists, so if by any chance if you would be paying a visit to the country, there is not much chance you would be able to invite this blossom for dinner! :)

The flower represents tranquility and wholeness. It also means “I love you more than anyone could” The word comes from the Greek word “kosmos” which symbolizes world and order. The flowers' fragrance and the bright eye-catching colors on them gave it this meaning.

QUICK JOKE: What did the Bee say to the Flower? Hey, bud! — This can’t be said true to the chocolate cosmos though, bugs and beetles HATE the taste of the flower so you wouldn’t need to worry about bug-spray around this smart fella.

The plant is also the ultimate flower for drought-loaded areas as this unique blossom requires well-drained soil and only needs to be watered about once a week to keep them happy. The flowers almost loathe water as too much will make their roots rot. The exact opposite can be said for their admiration for the sun as they need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. They are not really picky as you can see and is the ideal plant for a front garden or a backyard. (Hybrid seeds are available).

So next time your on a summer vacation in Mexico in the middle of a flower garden and smell chocolate (most unlikely unless you live in Mexico which incase would be the quite opposite of what I said) forage to see if you can spot the quirky flower hiding behind the bushes, if not don’t worry if it isn’t a flower that you smelt is would probably chocolate which everybody loves.

BONUS: As the Topic is Flowers I have an extra fact:-

Till another time Readers.
