Emperor Caligula And His Crazed Rein

Though The Roman Emperor Caligula was not as famous as Caesar or Augustus ,he certainly came top in the hate list. This Emperor was cruel to his people and his daily entertainment … executions, and torture. (* ̄0 ̄).

But he also did some pretty insane things that can be called funny or silly. These bizarre moments in History are unfamiliar to most people of the Modern Era. So I have summed up a few of these incidents that happened during Caligula’s rule.

Why don’t Romans find algebra interesting? Cos X is always 10.
  1. He Made Incitatus a Consul

What’s so strange about that you say. Well, let's just say that Incitatus was actually his Favourite HORSE. Yes, it is true he made his Horse one of the Cheif Magistrates to rule the country. Well, that Horse is definitely given too much power for his own good. “Neigh Grunt Grunt Neigh” — Incitatus apparently has lined me up for execution tomorrow. (ikr)

2. He Built a House — for Incitatus

What’s more, the house was complete with furniture, and Incitatus was even given his own group of slaves at his command. Now that is one spoiled pony.

3. The Food he gave Incitatus was worth a Fortune {Literally}

Incitatus had a Shining Diet. So bright in fact that it was made of Gold. Caligula made sure that the oats given to his Horse were mixed with flakes of Gold. He definitely treated his Pet better than most people.

What do you call those dead pieces of green stuff left in the bottom of a bowl of Caesar salad? The last romaines. Now lettuce pray for them.
This portrait of the God of Sea sure looks fishy.

4. He Declared War on God

To Elaborate he forced his men to fight with Poseidon(Roman God of Water and Sea). He told his men to line ships as far as they could into the sea and march the army on top of the ships then when they reach the end of the last ship they were to throw spears into the waters below in a lunatic attempt to capture Poseidon. It obviously failed, but I am pretty sure they caught loads of fish though.😂

5. He Compelled Parents to watch the death of their own Sons

This one is not funny, a bit serious but really insane. Caligula once executed a man for a crime then ordered the poor man’s father to watch and later dine with the Emperor. He could have argued but that would put his other children’s lives at stake. Sometimes Caligula was not silly at all.

6. He Rode a Floating Bridge

When Caligula was just a teen he heard a prophecy that he becoming King is likely has him riding across the Bay of Baiae. So when he became Emperor, to gloat that the soothsayer was wrong it is told that he rode a horse for 2 days on the floating bridge (constructed across the Bay) to make it known that the prophet was wrong. This story has many different versions and is not proven.

7. A Sacrifice

In a gathering for a Sacrifice of Bulls, Caligula interrupted and is said to have hit the priest conducting the sacrifice with a hammer on his head and sacrificed the poor priest instead. Disturbing. 😐

So I hope you enjoyed these Fun, Silly, Gruesome, and Horrifying Facts about the Mad Incidents during the reign of Caligula and by the looks of it his pampered horse.

So, Till next time Readers [Hopefully there is a next time if Incitatus doesn't behead me 😬😋]
